Dashboards leaders actually use

What makes a business dashboard useful — and what makes it ignored.
Most dashboards die in the first month. They get built with too many metrics, no clear owner, and a vague sense that 'leadership should see the numbers'. Useful dashboards are different.
A useful dashboard answers one question: 'is the business on track this week, and if not, where?'. Five or six numbers, each with a target, each owned by a named human. Anything else is a report, and reports belong in a different document.
Refresh weekly, review on a fixed cadence, and act on what it shows. A dashboard that no decision ever follows from is decoration.
